Description/Traits

  • Time: Following from TheEscape [0]
  • Location: The transport, leaving the system and headed for deep space [1]
  • Components: Kundar Mowe, Unkown Vessel

The transport drifted silently through the void of space. Kundar Mowe scowled [1, Introduction] as he studied the damage report. The ship was heavily damaged, and the escape pods were shot [1]. The only hope that remained of even getting out of this god-forsaken system was to head for the nearest jump-point [1].

In spite of his perfect scheme, his political experience, and natural intelligence, Kundar had made one mistake: he underestimated the danger of space [1]. And while his ship glided forward, he was betrayed by his overconfidence yet again, as a dark, UnknownVessel? [1, Introduction] approached unseen[1] from the shadow of a nearby asteroid

Alright, thar she blows... Just so you have the heads up, I'm fully intending that to be an alien vessel..

Also, take a look back over the tenets. I think we let humans feel more important than they actually are in the dark, scary universe we made up at first.

-- SeanHess -- 11 Nov 2006 - 15:50:49

Well, it's been almost two days, and no one's posted. Does that make it my turn? I'll wait til later today, in case people were just gone over the weekend. -- JohnHalsey -- 13 Nov 2006 - 15:14:05

Yeah, you should be able to post after 48 hours (according to the gimmick I made before), although you can always interrupt smile

-- SeanHess -- 13 Nov 2006 - 16:19:44

The transport's [1, control] new experimental sensor package [1, trait] goes off, as it detects the approaching ship.

Complication, target is Sean's unseen ship, since you say it's approaching unseen. I'll draw 1 die for experimental sensor package added above, plus one die to say that the wake of the plasma storm makes the ship more easily detectable and one more for tripping an alarm bouy. (The last two are directly purchased dice )

-- TrevisMartin 02 00

Pick your sides gentlemen -- TrevisMartin -- 14 Nov 2006 - 03:56:01

My foot you detect it!

First, I'm voicing my displeasure with your selection of dice. No plasma storm here ... that was in the last scene, you'd have to introduce it to use it, but I would prob. challenge, as I was thinking that they're already significantly away from the prison world.

Second, what alarm bouy? Did you pay for that? You can create that and draw on it for one die.

So, sorry to rain on your little dice-nabbing extravaganza, but pay up big grin

-- SeanHess -- 14 Nov 2006 - 05:22:26

Although, you know what, to pull the experimental sensor package into the complication, you probably don't need to pay for the "detection," since I'm guessing that's the intention of the complication. -- SeanHess -- 14 Nov 2006 - 05:24:02

[1, interrupt] .. Alright, I'm drawing on the "Unseen" trait of the Unkown Vessel (I could just challenge, but I like this better).

Then, I'll add Incomprehensible Technology and Expert Stealth Navigation [2, traits]

I'll also pay 1 for the interference of the asteroid and draw on it [1].

I'll also introduce the DarkAlienRace? [1, create] that is piloting the ship, and will include their Incredibly Patient trait [1].

That brings me to 5 dice.

Hey! Why can't I pay for things in the comments? Should I be putting this in a play entry? It's all non-narration though. -- SeanHess -- 14 Nov 2006 - 05:31:46

My my, but aliens are snippy these days :P

You can pay for things in comments if you want just enter your name double number double number format, It'll count just like normal. (See my example in my above comment.)

And while you're right I didn't follow proceedure exactly, the plasma wake and the bouy are merely justifications for directly purchased dice (which I forgot to pay for and which I will edit my above post to do.) So put that in your Incomprehensible Technology and smoke it, bucko. big grin

And you're probably right about the event, so I will edit that too, for pointing that out you are a gentleman and a scholar...by very loose definitions.

Hmm...this is more fun when you talk smack. smile

-- TrevisMartin -- 14 Nov 2006 - 08:15:53

Wow, it IS more fun to trash-talk :P don't to the colon-D smiley because he turns out freaky.

I guess we'll wait for other people to jump in. Let's give them about 24 hours, then we'll resolve. -- SeanHess -- 14 Nov 2006 - 14:32:10

I forget how complications with multiple people work... since this is a new scene, I don't control anything. How can I get involved? P.S. Good idea to create a complication!-- JohnHalsey -- 14 Nov 2006 - 16:10:54

I spent the weekend figuring this out smile On your turn (we take normal turns) you can pick one of the two sides, and either donate to one of our pools, or create your own by doing any of the following.
  • Buy dice one-for-one
  • Spend coins to add traits and then draw on them
  • Spend coins to create components and then draw on them.

Now, all of these must make sense. So, you could create a "Nebular Cloud," for example, with "Light blocking ions" and then draw on that for two dice (on my side).

Or, you could just spend 4 coins for dice on Trevis' side, because everything is quiet, or because the Unknown vessel is too close. (You wouldn't get these dice yourself, I think you'd have to donate them to Trevis)

In other words, to get your own dice pool, you have to come up with some other components (introducing or creating), and explain how they're vested in the situation. You can only join one side, and each component can only join one side.

(did I get all that right?)

-- SeanHess -- 14 Nov 2006 - 16:46:23

SpaceIsDangerous, bub! I'm spending 1 coin to say that the residual energy left over from the plasma storm occasionally sends out tendrils of lightning vortexes, which interfer with ship sensors. (This is, effectively, negating the dice Trevis bought to say that the plasma storm creates a visible wake around the ship; but it allows me to get in on the action ^_^ ) JohnHalsey 01 00 Can I add Traits to help out the unknown vessel, or do I have to control it for that? -- JohnHalsey -- 14 Nov 2006 - 20:57:23

You still can only add to components you control/create, and since the UnkownVessel? is already in the complication, you can't take it over.

So, no. You could make up a rules gimmick about friendly additions though.

-- SeanHess -- 15 Nov 2006 - 02:59:29

Well dang, if everyone else is getting involved, I guess I should too! The transport has a Capable Crew [1], which should certainly help out with crew related tasks, like detecting incoming vessels. So this is an extra dice for the side of Kundar Mowe -- DaveMG 01 00 -- 15 Nov 2006 - 15:44:14

I guess we're going out of order, so I'm just going to go.

I also take 1 die for "The ship was heavily damaged, and the escape pods were shot."

That brings me to 6.

Let's resolve this soon so we can get to the REAL complications smile (just you wait). Also, I'm leaving to germany tomorrow, so it would be nice to get this done and narrate the outcome today.

-- SeanHess -- 15 Nov 2006 - 18:06:07

I'm calling to close the complication. For some reason I thought we had a tenet that said that complications closed in 24 hours. Must be my fading memory...getting old. Anyway. If there are no objections in a few hours I will roll it. -- TrevisMartin -- 15 Nov 2006 - 18:37:37

Unless everyone declares that they're ready sooner. In which case I will roll. I'm keeping an eye on this topic. -- TrevisMartin -- 15 Nov 2006 - 19:01:48

Let's see em, I'm ready to close now. I'll roll after you do smile -- SeanHess -- 15 Nov 2006 - 19:45:12

I'm ready as well. ::Cups his one little die and shakes it eagerly:: -- JohnHalsey -- 15 Nov 2006 - 21:28:42

Well, I'm out of time.. I'll be on the plane almost all day tomorrow, but if I get a chance, I'll drop in to narrate. Otherwise, I won't be able to narrate until friday.

But ... here's the roll!

4, 1, 5, 6, 6, 3

Yes! That's good enough for me! Four successes. Roll away!

I agree that we should have a tenet for complications that they last only 24 hours, and that play is out-of-turn during that time (you can interrupt for free). What do you guys think? -- SeanHess -- 16 Nov 2006 - 05:35:05

Sorry for not getting to it earlier.

My roll is 8, 6, 10, all failures. Oh the shame! I'll get you vile aliens. smile

I agree on the proposed tenet. A complication should close 24 hours from when it was started, unless closed earlier in the normal way. Interrupts should be free during a complication.

Normally the originator of the complication would roll dice for everyone unless we gimmick that. We could add that after the complication is closed, whoever is handy can go ahead and roll all dice. Just in the interest of expeideincey.

-- TrevisMartin -- 16 Nov 2006 - 06:52:12

My roll: an 8. Curses! Oh well, at least my side "won"... though I don't get any coins back.

I concur with the proposed tenent; but what's this about the originator rolling dice for everybody? I didn't know that. -- JohnHalsey -- 16 Nov 2006 - 17:57:30

Nevermind John, I checked my book. I thought the originator rolled all the dice. A misreading on my part. People roll their own pools. -- TrevisMartin -- 16 Nov 2006 - 21:51:57

It was our practice in the old uniwiki game for all the dice to be rolled at once by one person. Weird, but that's where I got it from. -- TrevisMartin -- 16 Nov 2006 - 21:52:56

Trevis, that seems a better system for a wiki game, and I have to admit I thought we were doing that (hence my not posting a dice result). However, for my roll I got a 9, not great, which adds to your pool Trevis (not doing a lot for it!).

Are we ready to have the result complication closed up and Sean to describe? -- DaveMG -- 21 Nov 2006 - 09:42:54

Yep, we're ready for Sean to describe. I thought he would earlier than this but he's gone to Germany or something and he didn't say for how long, though he implied that he'd check the game on friday. So..hm. -- TrevisMartin -- 21 Nov 2006 - 16:28:15

Hey guys.. I'm online (with a US keyboard, thank goodness) and I'll be writing a post within the next few minutes.

Did anyone else even get any coins? -- SeanHess -- 22 Nov 2006 - 15:22:42

A red light began to flash on and off in the passages of the ship. Kundar sighed, and put away the report [1]. Adamar Rancine, the ship's commanding officer stepped into the room [2, create].

"Sir, it looks like we'll be experiencing interference from the aftershock of the plasma storm. Hang tight. We should have it under control." [1].

Kundar shook his head, "Fine. Just get us out of here as soon as you can." He was beginning to seriously regret having come to this system at all [1].

The ship began to rock back and forth, and the navigational system lit up, indicating objects very near the ship [1].

Adamar cursed, "Looks like those idiotic scientists blew it again. The storm has thrown off the sensors. I'll go check it out myself." He clicked his heels and marched out of the room [2].

Kundar tried to concentrate, but in less than a minute, there was a small shake, and a thudding sound that reverberated throughout the ship. Kundar stood up, 'was that an aftershock?' he wondered [1].

Alright! A few clarifications... Things I didn't want in the narration yet.

That 'thud' was the unknown vessel docking against the side of the transport. The crew is unaware of what has happened, thinking it is just the plasma storm, and think the sensors malfunctioned (even though they actually worked :).

-- SeanHess -- 22 Nov 2006 - 15:52:45

Well, the losers get coins equal to their dice just for entering; I guess I'm the only one who didn't get any coins!

I don't know if I'm supposed to post next, or the losers, or what, but I'm passing, for now.

And, while I like where you're going, it's still could just be an asteroid bumping the ship until someone pays for it! -- JohnHalsey -- 22 Nov 2006 - 20:52:33

Play now goes to anyone else that got coins on the winning side, then anyone that got coins on the losing side (from most to least).

After that, we proceed in regular turn order (although I'm not sure who starts first).

About the bump, I'm fine with paying for it to be the ship docking, but do I really need to pay for the bump, and for saying it was the ship? Wouldn't I only need one coin if I had said, "the alien vessel bumped into the transport as it docked into the side"? I mean, my whole narration was really just fluff except for the alien vessel docking ... that's the only thing I really care about.

Tell me what you think... I'm standing by my interpretation for now, but I'll gladly pay another coin for it. I'm just curious about how to handle that if it comes up again.

-- SeanHess -- 23 Nov 2006 - 11:03:12

Well, I only get three coins and I'm running a bit low here so I'm passing additional narration for the moment. Dave you want to narrate anything? After that it's back to normal sequence.

-- TrevisMartin 00 03

-- TrevisMartin -- 25 Nov 2006 - 00:55:20

Despite his external confidence Kundar was worried [1, Trait]. What if this was something to do with that damned gene-mod?

Okay then, complication narration is over. -- TrevisMartin -- 30 Nov 2006 - 17:45:20

Since nobody has posted in 24 hrs I'm taking the free interrupt into normal narration -- TrevisMartin -- 30 Nov 2006 - 17:46:19

As if in answer to his musing, Kundar feels the cold touch of a sharp edge [1, knife, create] against his throat. "Well, well, isn't this a pickle." RyleGalesi [1, intro] breathes in his ear.[1]

Ooooh nice smile -- DaveMG -- 04 Dec 2006 - 13:46:46

Mowe stood stock still as his mind raced. Galesi was stronger and faster than he was, no doubt. An acrid scent reached his nose [1], burnt flesh and chemicals .. the genemod was wounded then.

"Tell me what you need" Kundar hissed, nervous sweat forming on his brow.

-- DaveMG 01 00 -- 04 Dec 2006 - 14:02:08

Sitting at his console in front of where Kundar was standing, a crewman [1, create] held very still, afraid to move lest he upset the genemod. But a flashing light on his console attracted his attention[1]: Captain Rancine's ID had disappeared from the ship [1]. Normally, that would mean that he had either left the ship or died, but with all this damage from the plasma storm, who knew what the system was doing. He decided that now wasn't the greatest time to bring it up, and ignored it.

Where is everyone? Holidays? School finishing up? We done here? (It has been longer than two months.)

Ah well. I'm almost out of coins so I gotta pick another fight. -- TrevisMartin -- 13 Dec 2006 - 02:30:47

"What do I need?" echos Ryle, he leans in close to Kundar's ear, "Right now I need you to die."

Ryle cuts Kundar's throat.

So there, punks... target is Kundar

I'll draw on wants payback, naturally strong, capable of adrenaline flooding, incredibly fast and his name. That's five dice. -- TrevisMartin -- 13 Dec 2006 - 02:37:13
